How Mako Works

Scan. Plan. Mako Can.

Scan. It begins with a CT scan, giving our surgeons detailed insights into your unique anatomy.
Plan. The CT scan generates a 3D model of your joint, which our surgeons use to develop a customized surgical plan and guide the joint replacement procedure.
Mako Can. In the operating room, our surgeons follow your personalized surgical plan to prepare the bone for the implant. Using Mako’s robotic arm, our surgeons operate within a predefined area, with Mako’s AccuStop™ technology ensuring they remain within the boundaries set by your customized preoperative plan.

It’s important to know that our orthopaedic surgeons perform the procedure using Mako’s robotic arm to assist in positioning the implant within the knee or hip joint. Mako does not operate independently, make decisions, or move without our surgeon’s guidance. Additionally, Mako allows your surgeon to make real-time adjustments to your surgical plan as needed.

Mako® Smartrobotics Partial Knee Replacement

Mako for Partial Knee replacement is a treatment option for patients experiencing early to mid-stage osteoarthritis that hasn’t advanced into all three compartments of the knee. Depending on which part of the knee is affected by arthritis, an implant may be placed in the knee.

Mako® Smartrobotics Total Knee Replacement

Mako for Total Knee replacement utilizes AccuStop™ technology and helps our surgeons place the Triathlon Total Knee implant for arthritic knees. With more than ten years of clinical success, Triathlon knee implants stand out from traditional knee replacements, as they are designed to work with the body to support natural, circular knee motion.
