Outpatient Joint Replacement
Your joints can take on a lot of damage throughout your life, leading to degenerative conditions, like osteoarthritis. Joint replacement is often the recommended solution for the pain and limited mobility associated with these conditions.
Traditionally, joint replacement is performed as an inpatient procedure that often requires one to two nights of recovery in a hospital. This remains the best option for some patients; however, new options exist for select candidates.
As healthcare technology progresses, surgeons are able to offer procedures using minimally invasive techniques with smaller incisions and less disruption to healthy joint structures. Outpatient joint replacement is part of that progress, and we are proud to offer patients this option and all the benefits it can provide, including:
- No overnight stay—patients go home the same day
- Quicker recovery time
- Reduced risk of infection exposure due to avoiding the hospital environment
You and your doctor may consider several other factors when determining whether a joint replacement procedure is the right choice for you. Your age, overall health, and bone density all contribute to whether you’re ready to undergo a joint replacement procedure. Additionally, these and other health factors also play a role in determining if an outpatient procedure is right for you.
